From 5–8 February 2026, the roads of the Midvaal Local Municipality, within the Sedibeng region of Gauteng Cycling, hosted the National Road, Time Trial & Para Cycling Championships. As Gauteng Cycling, we are immensely proud of the role our province continues to play in staging championship racing of the highest standard.

It is difficult to capture, in a few paragraphs, the magnitude of what unfolded over those four days. Championships are measured in medals and jerseys, yes — but they are truly defined by people, partnerships and purpose.

We celebrate the Gauteng cyclists who lined up across categories. From juniors to elites, para athletes to masters, our riders demonstrated not only performance excellence, but courage, tactical intelligence and resilience. To compete for a national title demands months of unseen preparation — early mornings, disciplined training and personal sacrifice. To witness so many Gauteng athletes rise to the occasion on home soil was both inspiring and affirming.

We also acknowledge the exceptional partnership between Cycling South Africa and the Midvaal Local Municipality. When national federation leadership and local government align with a shared vision, the result is more than an event — it is a benchmark. Midvaal has once again shown what is possible when a municipality embraces cycling as a vehicle for community development, economic vitality and sporting excellence. The professionalism of the organising teams, supported by the technical precision of Spectrum Sport, ensured that these championships were delivered with integrity and credibility.

Yet this championship carried deeper meaning.

As a cycling community in Gauteng, we remain mindful of those who have tragically lost their lives on our roads in senseless incidents. While we celebrate champions, we also reflect. Every rider who rolled down the start ramp or lined up for the road race did so knowing the reality of road safety challenges. In racing with discipline, respect and courage, we honour the memory of those we have lost. Their absence strengthens our resolve to advocate for safer roads and greater accountability.

Above all, what stood out across 5–8 February was the strength of the Gauteng cycling community. Families on the sidelines. Volunteers and commissaires working tirelessly. Clubs rallying behind their athletes. Rivals congratulating one another with sincerity. There was a tangible reminder that cycling in our province is built on shared commitment and shared passion.

Gauteng Cycling is not simply an administrative body — it is a community. And in Midvaal, that community showed its character.

We are proud of what was achieved. Grateful for the partnerships that made it possible. And resolute in our commitment to building a cycling culture in Gauteng that is competitive, inclusive, safe and united.

Together, we ride.
