2026 Combined Provincial Road & Time Trial Championships – Gauteng
Gauteng proudly hosted the 2026 Combined Provincial Road and Time Trial Championships, incorporating an inter-provincial competition that brought together Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Free State, North West and Gauteng. Across the weekend, the championships delivered racing that reflected the depth, diversity and growing maturity of South African cycling.
Individual Time Trial Championships – Saturday.
Saturday’s Individual Time Trial Championships showcased the most uncompromising discipline in the sport. With no drafting and nowhere to hide, riders were tested on raw power, aerodynamics, pacing discipline and mental resilience. Performances across all provinces were marked by narrow margins and consistent standards, underlining the quality of preparation taking place at club and provincial level. Congratulations to all riders who competed in the race against the clock, and particularly to the medalists and champions who converted months of focused preparation into decisive performances. These results reflect not only individual commitment, but the collective work of clubs, coaches, managers and support teams who understand the precision required for successful time trial racing.
Road Racing Championships – Strategic Racing on Display.
Sunday’s Road Racing Championships highlighted the tactical depth of championship racing. Riders were challenged to balance strength with strategy, positioning with patience, and teamwork with individual ambition. The racing was intelligent, hard-fought and representative of the strong racing cultures present across all five provinces. Well done to every rider who navigated the complexity of championship road racing, and congratulations to the champions who demonstrated both physical strength and tactical awareness. These outcomes are a credit to the structures supporting the sport, from club systems to provincial programmes.
Acknowledgements.
Sincere thanks are extended to the hosts and organisers for delivering a well-run championship weekend, and to the volunteers whose dedication, professionalism and long hours made the event possible. Their contribution remains the foundation of successful championship racing. To the riders now wearing provincial championship stripes, wear them with pride and responsibility — they represent excellence earned under pressure.
Looking Ahead.
The racing calendar continues with The Fast One Road Race, followed by the SA Road and Time Trial Championships, both taking place in the Midvaal Local Municipality. Momentum is building, standards are rising, and South African cycling continues to move forward with confidence.
